Woman Cites Excessive Demand for Sex by Her Husband as the Reason for Seeking Divorce

A 37-year-old woman, Linda Stephen, has approached a Kaduna Customary Court seeking the dissolution of her marriage due to what she describes as her husband's excessive sexual demands. Linda, a resident of Ungwan Sunday in Kaduna, told the court that her husband, Felix Stephen, frequently forces her into sexual intercourse, sometimes from midnight until dawn.

She further alleged that whenever she refused his advances, he would physically assault her, often in the presence of their two children. According to her, she has endured this for six years but can no longer cope, prompting her to move out of their matrimonial home three months ago. Despite repeated pleas from her husband's relatives urging her to return, she remains adamant about ending the marriage.

"I urge the court to dissolve this marriage because I canā€™t stand his excessive sexual urge. Even when I cry and beg him to stop, he does not listen," she stated.

Felix, in his defense, admitted to his actions but pleaded for another chance. He expressed his deep love for his wife and promised to control his urges if she agreed to return. He further revealed that he had taken his uncles and friends to her parentsā€™ house to plead with her, but she refused to reconcile.

The presiding judge, John Dauda, adjourned the case until May 6 to allow for reconciliation efforts while advising both parties to maintain peace.
