Vanguard explains that Enyimba FC sacked their head coach because of the Club's poor performances in the recent times. According to the report, Enyimba FC, one of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) powerhouses, has officially terminated the contract of its head coach, Yemi Olanrewaju. This decision was publicly announced on Saturday through the club’s social media platforms. The club expressed gratitude to the 32-year-old coach for his contributions and wished him success in his future career endeavors.
In a brief statement, the club said, "Enyimba FC can confirm that it has parted ways with head coach Yemi Olanrewaju. The club thanks Coach Olanrewaju for his services and wishes him the best in his future endeavors."
Coach Olanrewaju, who took over the reins seven months ago after the departure of Finidi George, leaves the club during a turbulent period. Enyimba FC has been struggling to find form, currently enduring a nine-match winless streak across all competitions, which includes six consecutive league draws. Their performance in the CAF Confederations Cup has been particularly disappointing, with the team languishing at the bottom of Group D, having secured only one point from three matches.
The dismissal of Coach Olanrewaju came just 48 hours after a lackluster draw against Plateau United in the NPFL. Enyimba FC, which holds the record as the most successful club in the league, finds itself in an uncharacteristically low 11th position on the table, with a tally of 23 points from 15 matches.
During his tenure, Olanrewaju oversaw 26 matches, achieving nine victories and suffering seven defeats. Despite his previous experience as an assistant manager at clubs such as Magate FC, MFM, and Vandrezzer, his stint with Enyimba failed to meet the high expectations set by the club and its supporters.
The decision to sack Olanrewaju underscores the club's commitment to returning to its winning ways and maintaining its prestigious status in Nigerian football. The management is expected to commence the search for a new head coach immediately, aiming to find a candidate who can revitalize the team's performance and lead them to success both domestically and in continental competitions.
Enyimba FC’s fans will be eagerly watching for the next move from the club’s management as they hope for a swift turnaround in fortunes. The club’s ability to bounce back from this challenging phase will be crucial in determining its success in the ongoing season.
