INTRO: In an occasion that brought leaders of faith in Kaduna together towards achieving peace in the State, and which was organised by the Kaduna State Peace Commission on Thursday, September 3, 2020, Gov. Nasir El-Rufai disclosed before the leaders of faith that the State has spent billions of Naira on security. A sum of money he regretted, would have been used in reducing the human and infrastructural deficits in the State.
The reason for spending that huge amount of money on security according to him was to support, equip and sustain federal security agencies to provide peace in the state.
He further stated that “The decision to gather leaders of faith in a joint endeavour for peace and harmony in our state reflects our belief that religion does not have to divide.
“The diversity of faith can be a vehicle for unity when adherents respect the right of every human being to life, liberty and livelihood, as creatures of God.”
Kaduna State has been broiled with killings of hundreds of lives due to ethno-religious conflicts between the Fulani Muslims, and the Southern Kaduna Christians. The fact here is that the several billions of Naira which the State Government claims to have spent has done nothing significant in achieving security in the Southern Kaduna. There should be sincerity of purpose especially on the side of the State Government in their role as the umpire.
